CaseCode

Legal citation checker that matches every cite to the source

A legal citation checker confirms that each citation in a draft is real and correctly cited. CaseCode extracts every case and statute citation, matches it to the source, and reports whether the opinion exists and whether name, court, year and pin cite agree.

What a cite check covers

For a case: the reporter cite resolves to an opinion, the case name matches, the court and year match and the pin cite falls inside the opinion. For a statute: the title and section exist in the current U.S. Code or CFR.

Why a Westlaw citation checker is not the same thing

Many attorneys search for a Westlaw citation checker because they want to know whether a cite is good law. CaseCode answers the earlier question: is the citation real and accurate. It shows later opinions that cite a case, but it is not a replacement for a citator.
